Dr Horrible

July 1, 2008

Could I have timed our holiday any worse?  We’re missing the finale Dr Who,  we were too early for the X-Files movie and now if any planes get delayed I’ll be missing Dr Horrible.  It’s being shown on the web from the 15th - 20th July.

I am a HUGE Joss Whedon fan, loved Buffy and Angel of course, I adore Firefly and Serenity (can we have a sequel please!) and even Toy Story is a stand out from all the other millions of kids films I’ve had to sit through over the last 5 years.

Here’s the trailer:

OH MY GOD!

June 29, 2008

*****SPOILER ALERT******

If you don’t want to see what happens at the end of ‘Stolen Earth’ the penultimate episode of Dr Who Series 4 (or series 700 depending on your age), PLEASE don’t click through.   It was a genius episode with a wonderful ending - I cried into my beer :).

US Life on Mars…

June 29, 2008

What would Genie Gene say?  Life on Mars didn’t need to be re-made, but we’ll see…  This trailer is crap though, the ‘comedy’ voice-over is just awful, out of place and makes it look like a sitcom rather than the gritty past of the 70’s.  If they sort out the trailers then they possibly stand a chance with the viewing public.

Pondman

June 10, 2008

My friend Vero posted this the other day and I’ve been meaning to link to it.   One of her friends found a letter from the former owner of his house at the bottom of the pond they were taking out.  The letter is more than a little mental!

I love being British sometimes - we are nuts :) Check out the letter and the even funnier replies to Vero’s blog here

The new iPhone…..

3G, hmmm whatever - The Edge is actually quite fast as there is never anyone on it!  But I can see the attraction.

GPS - excellent news and it looks very cool

New Apps - woo hoo! And I can get those on mine.

Lower price - good news so more people can escape the crap that is all the other phones :)

Oh and it comes in white?!?!  :)  But still it kicks ass in any incarnation, so check it out if you couldn’t afford it before, they really are wonderful.

But where is the Apple TV news?……

Apple Keynote Speech Today

June 9, 2008

Here are the things I’d spend our family’s ‘Jobs Tax’ on:

  1. Apple TV with a huge hard drive for the new Apple Movie Content -  a terra or two would be good as more HD movies come online.
  2. More TV and Movie Content - it’s not bad but needs to be expanded and rapidily.  Doing a deal with the BBC’s iplayer in the UK would be fabby!
  3. iPhone….I actually not that arsed about upgrading, I love my iPhone to death and I don’t live in a 3G area, so unless it’s got lots of interesting and new features…naaaa don’t care.
  4. iPhone software from iTunes - YES, YES,YES - can’t wait :)
  5. iPods…again not that bothered but it’s always interesting to see what they do with them next.
  6. New MacBook - I want to see how sexy it’s going to be and then cry, I still want the Air….

Roll on this evening to see what’s announced.

Online Generation

June 3, 2008

My first thought when I heard the story below on the radio was ‘What a bunch of fuckwits’, then I thought about it for a bit and I was stunned by the thought that these kids genuinely think that the only people looking at their profiles are their mates and that they are untouchable.

There is a whole generation who share every single thing online with no shame and no secrecy.  I kind of admire it, but they are really going to regret it when future employers, spouses, in laws etc are googling them!  Oh the dirt I’ll be able to dig on my daughter’s prospective boyfriends :)

But I do find it interesting that there is a generation in the UK who think there is some kind of right to ‘free speech’  and that the ‘internet’ is subject to laws somewhere else.  Free Speech a concept that doesn’t exist here, we also have some of the most stringent online laws in the world and the government would happily monitor every communication we have.  I find it scary that they appear to be unaware of any of this.  What are they teaching them in ICT lessons?

Bebo users quizzed over ’safety issues’

Police have questioned more than 180 young people in Central Scotland about content they posted on social networking sites like Bebo.

The operation in Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire, targeted users aged 12-18 years-old over material that ‘”raised child safety issues.”

These included concerns over alcohol abuse, weapon possession, racism, and young people potentially exposing themselves to violence.

Information was also collected about criminal activities such as drug dealing.

Several users could face charges and 72 reports have been submitted about vulnerable adults and children under-16. Central Scotland Police interviewed the young people in the presence of an adult.

Assistant Chief Constable Derek Penman said: “In many cases the parent or guardian was simply unaware of their child’s use of social networking in this way and reaction ranged from shock to disgust.”

Mr Penman added: “In some cases sites were accessed in the presence of police officers and immediate access to the internet or the computer were withdrawn.”

Teen opinion

Teenagers that the BBC spoke to in Scotland had mixed views on the police’s actions.

Jordan, aged 20, from Falkirk said: “If they’ve got proof that folk have gone out with weapons then they’re quite right.”

But Jason, aged 19, from Grangemouth, thought a lot of teenagers just liked to appear tough in their online photos.

He said: “They’re just like posing - got a knife and that looking solid. It’s just what kids are like I suppose.”

Networking community Bebo was of particular concern to Scottish police, but the site - which has 4.5m UK members, said users agreed not to post inappropriate or illegal material when they signed up.

A spokesperson said: “Content which comes to our attention that contravenes those terms is immediately suspended and investigated.”

However, the site admitted that “unfortunately, anti-social behaviour is an aspect of the society we live in.”

X-Files ‘I Want to Believe’ Trailer Goes Live Monday Morning

May 11, 2008

The trailer for X-Files will hit the offical site on Monday, May 12th 12:01 AM.  Hopefully it’ll be a new one and not the ones that have been leaked on YouTube.  I still can’t believe that I forgot it was coming out when I was planning my holiday to Canada ::SOB::…
